Carrier Name Search

Search by legal name or DBA (doing-business-as) name. Type at least 3 characters.

Matches both the legal registered name and any DBA name on file with FMCSA.

Legal name vs. DBA name

FMCSA registration records store a carrier's legal name — the entity name on its formation documents — and, separately, an optional DBA ("doing business as") name if the carrier operates publicly under a different brand. Our search matches against both, so searching either the legal entity name or a familiar public brand name should find the carrier.

When to search by name instead of DOT number

Name search is useful when you know who you're looking for but not their USDOT number — for example, checking out a company you saw advertising loads, or verifying a business card. If you already have a USDOT or MC number, those searches are more precise: company names aren't unique, and multiple carriers can have very similar names (different franchisees of the same brand, for instance, often register as separate USDOT numbers). See DOT Number Lookup or MC Number Lookup if you have either number.

Why some carriers won't appear

This search only covers carriers with a published CarrierPedia profile — which requires a minimum amount of published FMCSA safety, inspection, or authority data (see About for how that's decided) — and index coverage rolls out in stages rather than all 2+ million active carriers at once. If a name doesn't return a match, the carrier may not have enough public FMCSA data yet, or may not be indexed in the current stage. Its official record still exists in FMCSA's own SAFER system.

Verifying you found the right company

Once you find a likely match, confirm it against other details you have — city and state, approximate fleet size, or the type of freight hauled — all shown on the carrier's profile page. If two carriers have nearly identical names, checking the USDOT number against any paperwork you have is the most reliable way to confirm you have the right one.
