What's on a CarrierPedia snapshot

FMCSA's own SAFER system offers a "Company Snapshot" that pulls basic registration and safety summary data for a carrier. CarrierPedia's carrier profile covers the same ground and extends it: registration details, fleet and driver counts, SMS BASIC results, crash history with the specifics of each incident, inspection and out-of-service rates compared against the national median, and full operating authority and insurance status — all on one page, with percentile context so a raw number has meaning.

What makes a snapshot useful

A number on its own rarely tells you much. "14 inspections in the last 24 months" could be unremarkable or a red flag depending on fleet size and how it compares to similar carriers. Every snapshot on this site shows the relevant comparison alongside the raw figure — fleet size against the national distribution, out-of-service rate against the median for carriers with a comparable inspection volume, crash rate against peers in the same state and cargo category — so you're not left guessing at context.

Data freshness

Every snapshot shows the date its underlying data was last refreshed. FMCSA's own source datasets update on different schedules — daily for registration, crash, and inspection data; monthly for SMS safety scores — and our pipeline follows the same cadence, so what you see reflects what FMCSA had published as of that refresh. See Data Sources for the exact schedule per dataset.

Using a snapshot for due diligence

Brokers, shippers, insurers, and drivers all use a carrier snapshot for a quick first read before deeper verification. It's a strong starting point, not a final answer — for contractual or insurance decisions, confirm current authority and coverage directly, and treat this as informational; see our Terms of Use.
